Grosvenor Square has laid at the heart of Mayfair for nearly 300 years, acting as a servant to London and a backdrop for the world stage.

Roosevelt memorial grosvenor square

Franklin D. Roosevelt 

Located on the northern side of the garden is the statue of Franklin D Roosevelt (Grade II Listed), with a life-sized bronze on a corniced stone pedestal. The statue is set in an elongated oval area of stone paving, with a fountain on either side.

The statue of Franklin D Roosevelt was paid for by members of the British public in 1946 and dedicated to the enhancement of friendship and understanding between Great Britain and America. It was unveiled by Eleanor Roosevelt on 12 April 1948.

The garden is timeless and enduring, is a place for peaceful contemplation and looks to the future while remembering the past.

Eagle Squadron memorial

On the Southern side of the garden the Eagle Squadrons Memorial is a Second World War memorial commemorating the 244 American and 16 British Fighter Pilots who served in the three Royal Air Force Eagle Squadrons during the Battle of Britain.

Unveiled in 1986, the memorial includes a large bronze sculpture by Dame Elizabeth Frink of an American Bald Eagle, perching atop a Portland stone column.

September 11 Memorial Garden

The September 11 Memorial Garden was created in memory of all those who lost their lives in the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States of America. It is a permanent living memorial and a testament to the love and courage of those who lost family, friends or colleagues.
